Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was always a special day when I was growing up, and we wanted it to be a fun day for the boys also. We had decided the week before that we would get together with Matt's family after we went to church to eat and exchange gifts. Since it was sure to be a late night, we were expecting some tears and cranky boys; you just never know how they will react to so much when they are so young . There were some tired boys, but certainly no tears. They had a blast. Owen was a bit squirmy at church, but Micah warmed our hearts as he belted out "O Come All Ye Faithful!" Once at Grammy's and Gramp's house, they were in constant awe at all the presents. Micah was true to his character-he would oblige us with a few gasps and ooh's and ah's, and then turn back to figuring out their computer. Owen was beside himself. He opened a few trucks, a Thomas the tank engine, and then, by far and away his favorite gift, a garbage truck. He didn't put it down and played happily with it for the next two hours. We didn't venture home until 10. Once at home, we pulled one more box from under the tree. It was a gift to Micah from Owen- a duvet cover and pillowcase covered in numbers from IKEA. Micah was ecstatic and couldn't wait to go to his bed. Owen was thrilled too as he was still in full throtle from the evening's festivities. He brought his trucks to the bed and gave a few jumps before we told him he must go to bed. I don't know that he has ever stayed up that late in his life. He went to bed laughing about his "garbee guck!" Micah settled into his new covers and fell asleep rather quickly too after all the excitement. What a wonderful evening. Matt and I got the downstairs ready for the next morning, and went to bed. We then stayed up far too late chatting about our sweet boys and how much fun they had that night.

I can't quite tell from the pictures, but I think we have the exact same garbage truck. We actually got it for Ellie a long time ago because she was scared of the garbage truck and we thought it would help her. But it is definitely Luke's now. It is a big deal when the garbage truck comes by our house as well. We stop everything and run to the window to see the garbage truck when we hear it. So funny!
